extra ● soundtrack ● scenes ● connections ● ooc basics [top.] NAME: West Samuel Barstow GOES BY: West AGE AND DOB: 19; January 1, 2000 APPARENT AGE: Late teens-early 20s SPECIES: Therianthrope; wolf - bitten CAREER: Pickpocket CURRENT RESIDENCE: Anywhere MARTIAL STATUS: Single SEXUALITY: Heterosexual ETHER: Not quite, he gets it in bits and pieces. Sometimes he can manage to work his way onto it and sometimes it's like he hits a wall. It frustrates him mostly and he doesn't understand why it's necessary in the modern age of cell phones and email. When he does get on briefly, it's like fireworks going off. Bright colors, the smell of ignited gunpowder and a very sudden loud noise. supernatural [top.] ABILITIES
SKILLS: West has been on his own for the better part of 5 years. Due to his new "nature", he's had a hard time keeping jobs due to failure to explain why a large wolf occasionally wanders around the store. So he's a magnificent little thief. Primarily he preys on tourists, weak targets, stealing cash out of wallets and purses, although he once masqueraded as a valet and took a joy ride in somebody's Bentley Continental GT Series 51. He also has the magnificent ability to talk himself into and out of situations depending on his target. He has no problem playing on women to get a ride or cash or food. They often give into him, mothers or girls in his age bracket. With men, he can bring a potential fight scenario down to a low simmer before taking off to avoid the clash. LIMITATIONS: His wolf is not fully under control and it does, at random times, force its way out. He doesn't really like what he's become, but he's learning to accept it. He is very much a leap before looking type. Everything he does, he does on impulse, whether it's stealing cash or making a break for it. He has one speed--fast. West is young, even by human standards, and is thus a bit vulnerable. While he can look out for himself, anyone with the desire and ability can charm him into doing something for them. He's malleable. Furthermore, he has no family to protect him or to teach him how to behave, so he's very used to being on his own but doesn't always have his guard up to avoid getting trapped. WEAPONRY TRAINING: West is rather skilled with a gun, as much as a teenaged boy can be. He has a favored rifle that has been with him since before his change, he stole it from his dad when he ran away. GROUP: None. POSITION: None. OPINION: Catch me if you can. ALLIANCES: None. RIVALRIES: None. appearance [top.] West is an easy 5'11, although he's likely to round it up to 6' even. He weighs about 170lbs, all lean muscle. He's not bulky by any means and doesn't look like much a fighter. He's not. West is a sprinter, had he finished high school he probably would have been an all-star track runner. He has light-blonde hair that doesn't ever really look nice. More often looks wind blown or just out of bed tussled. Beautiful blue eyes that make all girls swoon but more than anything it's useful for manipulation. On his right leg is a rather large scar from where his sire bit him. It tore up the flesh, and left pale scars to remind him. He's not embarrassed by it but he also rarely wears shorts in public. Too many people ask questions and he is never in a mood to explain to humans what exactly happened or come up with some entertaining lie to make them go away. Facial hair is common, it often makes him look older than he is and helps him get into clubs and the like when the mood strikes him to mingle. By way of clothing, West tends to wear things until they fall apart. That being said, his jeans always have holes in them, his t-shirts are all faded, with some holes, and all his shoes are ratty and battered. He doesn't throw anything out until he can't stand it anymore and he has lots of patience. He has been known to throw a tie on over a t-shirt, an act that makes a mother squirm, but perhaps that's why he does it. DISTINGUISHING MARKS: On his right calf is the sizable mark of a werewolf turned. The skin is healed, leaving pink stretches of teeth marks behind. There are some indentations where muscle is missing, but they are few and shallow. Plus, there is a distinctive lack of hair in those spots. personality [top.] Typical impetuous teenaged boy. There is no other way to describe him. He's arrogant and loud-mouthed. He is young, has a lot to learn and doesn't have anyone to teach him how to behave. West is observant in a twitchy way. He doesn't always see danger coming and doesn't always have the common sense to get out of the way. Largely, he's a happy kid. He is living life on the edge and loving almost every minute of it. He had grander plans once upon a time, but is finding that he is well-suited to this life of petty thievery and has something of a reputation for it. West is very quick on the uptake, teach him something new and he will absorb it like a sponge and never forget it. If you know how, he is very easy to manipulate. He was a very sheltered child and cannot read intentions very well. As a werewolf he does have a heightened sense of body language, which allows him to pick up on when a human lets their guard down and steal from them. But a supernatural wanting to mess with or manipulate him is likely to find him easy pickings. He is rarely without a smile. Whether or not that smile means he's actually having a good time or he's just spotted an easy target is up for questioning. He rarely finds anything worthy of stressing about. He likes telling stories and engaging people, whoever they are. He's a bit of a performer and enjoys socializing with new and interesting people, especially if he can eventually take their money. The last few years have taught him that even food is easy to find if you look hard enough. And he is determined about getting what he needs to get by. He is a hunter of cash, of food, of shelter. West is very much that naturally laid back, West Coast surfer personality. The only difference is: he can't swim and doesn't have long hair. It takes a lot to make him legitimately angry, as he is more likely to back down and run away from a confrontation if he's been caught doing something wrong. That being said, sometimes life throws him a curve ball and he cannot run away. He will fight for his life, tooth and nail and rifle, if he has it. When he feels threatened, he lets that wolf come out and doesn't take any measures to control it. Every fight he has been in has been determined by the skill level of whoever picked on him. If that person is a trained fighter, they probably beat him. If they are like him, and act purely on instinct, he probably won. In a tight spot is his natural element. He is a genius at getting into them and a master at getting out of them. He thinks quickly on his feet, always looking for a way out of a room just in case. It's almost a paranoia, a need to be able to escape. He doesn't much like being in small or enclosed spaces, never really shut his bedroom door at home and almost always had the window open. Some of this stems from a childhood experience with a home fire, but largely it's just his need to stay in trouble without getting caught. An adrenaline junky, he looks for and gets a high on just avoiding getting caught. He enjoys the thrill of the act and is insatiably curious. He is remarkably adept at surviving, but not necessarily thriving. history [top.] FAMILY FATHER: Michael Barstow MOTHER: Sandra Barstow nee Anderson SIBLING(S): Leah & Amanda Barstow West is the oldest child of a rather conservative Las Vegas family. He was born on New Year's Day at the turn of the century, and as the world heralded the opportunities ahead, his parents dreaded the chore that lay ahead. Instantly, he was a demanding infant. If he didn't get what he wanted, he screamed and cried. Young West never gave up and instead, got his parents to give up and give in. Michael and Sandra are wealthy people, Michael is a state senator and Sandra is assistant district attorney. He spent time in private schools where he was the cause of all the trouble. West was a bully and a champion at the same time, kids flocked to him for his charm. When his twin sisters were born, things started to change. Leah and Amanda changed things. Michael and Sandra got stricter, learned how to control not only one but three children. Already set in his ways at eight years old, West did not take too kindly to this change in the rules. Things were rocky but he was still at a manageable age. When he was 10, an electrical short set fire to their home. West had been the only one upstairs and could not get out of the house and had to be rescued. He was fine, no burns, but it ignited the need for space. For many months after that, he would not go into a space smaller than his bathroom--which meant all the clothes from his closet were moved into the main area of his bedroom. This brought the Barstow family together but not for long. West got back into his old habits and began lashing out at his parents more and more with puberty. With high school came the threats for boot camp, as his nature turned a bit darker and he began to pick on his sisters a bit too much. This is the point where he ran away, leaving most of his possessions behind, and taking his father's precious hunting rifle and all the ammo he could carry, he took to the streets of Vegas. That lasted for about a year of uneventful thievery when he picked the wrong target. A werewolf. A very angry werewolf who chased the young boy into an alley. West turned to try and fire his rifle, twisted a bit too hard and fell, misfiring and finding a wolf latched onto his leg. West blacked out, waking up to a hospital room and the burning smell of cleaner and astringent. The smell was overwhelming, the lights way too bright and concerned nurses leaning over him, eying him carefully. He couldn't tell them what happened, he wasn't sure he entirely remembered. His parents came, without his sisters. His father very sternly telling him that he got what he deserved and that he was not to come home. They would pay for his medical attention and he was to disappear, he was too much of an embarrassment and hassle and it was damaging to their careers. West didn't stay in the hospital long, his wounds healing much faster than they were supposed to and the full moon brought out a new aspect of his personality. A furry, four-legged aspect. With great turbulence, he escaped the hospital, tearing through the streets of Vegas with feral rage. He'd been abandoned and given up on, something had happened to him and he didn't understand what it was. He learned on his own, through some research and a lot of plain, old figuring. He has never bumped into his sire again and has no idea if the wolf is dead or just left town afterwards. West has decided he doesn't want to know. Once he adjusted to his new senses and abilities, he used them. They have served him well and gets along much better than he did previously. But things are changing in Las Vegas, the earth has opened up and he keeps getting this searing headaches that knock him out for a few minutes. Trouble is bound to find him, if he doesn't find it first. extra [top.] ● Is afraid of fire. ● Loves his Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Traditional Hunter, Limited Series ● Cannot swim. ● Spends a lot of time watching crowds of people for his next target. soundtrack [top.] ♪ Linkin Park - Runaway (character theme) ♪ Bon Jovi - Have a Nice Day ♪ Bon Jovi - Complicated scenes [top.] PAST/CH#.
